Friday night saw an excursion into SE11 for fringe theatre production:

And great night last night at Shuffle Film Festival:

Watched Withnail and I, introduced by Danny Boyle. Great film, and what a great down to earth bloke Danny Boyle is. Then followed by finding my inner rock chick grooving to the Jimi Hendrix tribute band. I could almost have been in the Upper Cut Stadium in Forest Gate where Mr Hendrix played and was rumoured to have written Purple Haze!

Fantastic location, St Clement's Hospital on the Mile End Road. Originally a workhouse, then a mental hospital and now a burgeoning arts and events space. Get yourselves down there, especially if you like a night out with health warnings and edgy buildings. Would have been great to get inside and have a root around the non-performance spaces. If you're like me and like that sort of stuff you might like this site. Those old hospitals are really eerie.

The clock with no face

Reminiscent of the recent Dalston House?

Nice touch were the light boxes on the external walls, my favourite being the one of an old hospital room. Makes you think as you're supping your St Clement's cocktail in the fairy light strewn garden.

Fortunately I was greeted by a somewhat more pleasant space as I got off the no. 25 and ambled back home.

Why blog now? Here are a couple of reasons why:

Just got back from Standon Calling and realised how so much I saw is already going in my own E7 back yard. Especially loved the tin type photography tent run by people who I discovered live quite near here. Looking forward to getting them over to the Gate to involve everyone in their beautiful work.

Going down to Shuffle! this weekend, curated and kicked off by Danny Boyle, looking forward to seeing him again - can you believe it?! See you there and will blog all about it.

Also been to a couple of great local secret dining nights recently; thanks to Tabs and Art for putting these together.

And that's just the start; I could really get into this!
